Pool removal

Taking out an in-ground pool and returning the area to usable ground.

An unused in-ground pool is a maintenance cost, an insurance question and a large piece of a property that cannot be used for anything else. Removing it turns that area back into ground.

There is more than one way to remove a pool, and the methods differ in cost, in what happens to the shell, and in what you can legally build on the area afterwards. SDC has a documented in-ground pool removal. Which methods are currently offered is a question for the owner, so this page covers what any estimator needs to know rather than prescribing an approach.

  • Removal of in-ground pools, with the method agreed before work begins
  • Handling of the shell material and the debris the removal generates
  • Backfilling and grading the area to an agreed finished condition

Not Offered

  • Pool construction, installation or renovation
  • Drainage systems installed as part of the backfill
  • Paving or hardscaping the reclaimed area
  • Certification that the area is suitable to build on, which is an engineering question

What Drives the Job

Described without figures. The scope depends on factors specific to your property:

  • How the pool is built — concrete, gunite, vinyl liner or fibreglass all behave differently
  • Size and depth, which set both the debris volume and the volume of fill needed
  • Access, since a pool in a fenced rear yard may need fencing removed or a smaller machine
  • Whether the shell leaves the property entirely or is processed on site, which depends on the agreed method
  • How much fill has to be brought in, and how well it has to be compacted for the intended future use
  • Decking, fencing, equipment pads and plumbing that come out at the same time
