Opening ground, moving earth and leaving a site at the depth and shape the next stage needs.
Excavation is the base of most property work. Before anything gets built, filled, levelled or removed, material has to come out of the ground and go somewhere sensible.
Two things shape almost every residential dig: what is actually under the surface, and how machinery can reach it. A tight side yard with a gas line running through it is a different job from an open rear lot, even at identical dimensions.

Common Inquiries
- Ground has to be opened for a structure, footing or feature
- Soil or fill needs to come off the property, or be moved to another part of it
- An area needs to be cut down to a working depth before another trade can start
- Sloped ground needs a level working surface cut into it

What Drives the Job
Described without figures. The scope depends on factors specific to your property:
- Volume of material moved, and whether it stays on the property or leaves it
- What the machine hits: clean soil, heavy clay, rock, old fill or buried debris
- Access, which sets machine size — a gate, a slope or a narrow side yard can decide the whole approach
- Proximity to what must not be disturbed: utilities, septic components, mature trees, structures, neighbouring property
- Whether the finished surface needs to be rough, or graded and cleaned up
